Owahonton: Maid Of The Mist
A new book by local historian Paul Gromosiak treats young readers to a historically accurate and exciting tale that looks at the Maid of the Mist legend.
Illustrated by Joan Elizabeth Johnson, Owahonton: Maid of the Mist provides a unique glimpse into one of Niagara Falls' exciting legends.
The Native American story of the Maid of the Mist dates back hundreds of years. It was likely created by the Neutral Nation, people who once lived on both sides of the Niagara River. The legend was later adopted by the Seneca Nation.
The 40-page book includes a dozen full-page illustrations. The riveting text reads like an adventure. Gromosiak made every effort to accurately depict Native American customs.
