Books: by Author: Marjorie QuinlanFrank Lloyd Wright's Darwin D. Martin House: Rescue of a LandmarkArt History was a second career for Marjorie L. Quinlan, who passed away in January, 2010. Her first was raising her eight daughters and four sons. After her husband's premature death, Marge entered Canisius College as a freshman, and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1974. She earned a Master of Arts in Humanities at State University of New York at Buffalo in 1977. Mrs. Quinlan pursued further graduate study at the University of Maryland in College Park and at the State University of New York at Binghamton. In the summer of 1978, with the aid of a Buffalo Foundation grant, she studied the Italian Renaissance in Florence, Venice and Rome with the Art History department of the University of California at Berkeley. Mrs. Quinlan was an adjunct professor of Art History at Canisius College between 1976 and 1982. She taught and lectured on Buffalo's architectural legacy and Frank Lloyd Wright at Canisius College, D'Youville College, Niagara Community College and the Buffalo Museum of Science. She also organized and conducted tours for students and faculty to other city Art Museums, as well as Frank Lloyd Wright Houses in Buffalo and to Fallingwater in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Quinlan sometimes traveled to central Florida to present lectures on Frank Lloyd Wright and other topics at museums and colleges. Canisius College presented Mrs. Quinlan with their Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1979. She served on the Erie County Preservation Board, the Landmark Society of the Niagara Frontier and The Preservation Coalition of Western New York. In later years, she was working with Graycliff Conservancy Board of Directors to restore the Isabelle Martin House on the Lake Erie shore in Derby, New York. Her twelve children are all grown, settled into rewarding careers, and the parents of her nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was writing a Quinlan Family History, at the time of her passing. |
